Have you ever heard the term “Dog Days of Summer”?
Do you know what it means?
The Dog Days of Summer occur during July and August, usually during the hottest and most humid days of the year in North America between July 3 and August 11. They are called Dog Days because Sirius, the Dog Star is in the sky. Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Majoris—the “Greater Dog” and this is how Sirius got its canine nickname. After the Sun, Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
