Have you ever thought of becoming an Instrumentation and Control Technician?

They install, maintain, calibrate, design and troubleshoot networking systems, process control and environmental protection equipment in a variety of industrial environments.

Here is a list of duties an Instrumentation and Control technician may do:

  • install, maintain and configure control and process systems
  • calibrate, configure, install and troubleshoot all pneumatic, electronic, electrical, mechanical and analytical instrumentation devices
  • calibrate and repair analytical instrumentation that monitors or controls flow, level, temperature, pressure, acidity, conductivity and humidity
  • service process control communication networks
  • service environmental and other analytical instruments

This job requires that you complete an apprenticeship training program consisting of on-the-job and in-school training. Generally, the time-frame to become competent in the trade of Instrumentation and Control Technician is 8,000 hours or 4 years.

You could use the Canada Learning Bond to help you get started in this apprenticeship. Once you start working, you can use the money you make to pay for the rest of your course.
