International Friendship Day is observed worldwide on July 30th to celebrate the bond of friendship.
Originally, the idea for Friendship Day came from Hallmark Cards in the 1930’s. It wasn’t very successful at first because people saw it as a money-making scheme. The popularity of Friendship Day fizzled out in North America, but in Asian countries it is a popular custom to celebrate friendships.
Then, in 1958, the United Nations proposed an International Day of Friendship. With the increase in social media, International Friendship Day is gaining in popularity.
