National Puzzle Day: Helping Families Piece Together a Brighter Education Future

National Puzzle Day is a celebration of curiosity, problem-solving, and patience. Whether it’s a crossword at the kitchen table or a jigsaw spread across the living room floor, puzzles remind us that big pictures are built one small piece at a time. That same idea applies when planning for a child’s future education—and that’s where the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) can help.

The Canada Learning Bond is a federal government grant created to support children from families with eligible incomes in saving for post-secondary education. Through the CLB, eligible children can receive up to $2,000 toward education after high school. The best part? Families do not need to contribute their own money to receive it. All that’s required is opening a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) in the child’s name.

When an eligible child’s RESP is opened, the Government of Canada deposits an initial $500, followed by $100 each year until the child turns 15. Over time, these pieces come together to help cover costs like tuition, books, supplies, or tools for college, university, apprenticeship programs, or other training pathways.

For many families, education planning can feel like a complicated puzzle with missing pieces—rising costs, limited resources, and uncertainty about the future. The Canada Learning Bond helps fill in those gaps by providing a strong foundation, making post-secondary education feel more achievable and less overwhelming.

National Puzzle Day is a great reminder that progress doesn’t happen all at once. It happens step by step, piece by piece. Taking a few minutes to learn about the Canada Learning Bond and open a RESP is one simple action that can have long-lasting benefits.

As you work on a puzzle today, think about the bigger picture you’re building for the children in your life. With the Canada Learning Bond, families can put an important piece in place—helping ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
