National Astronaut Day

National Astronaut Day
April 9, 2026 by LorriK

National Astronaut Day celebrates one of humanity’s greatest achievements—the moment we first ventured beyond Earth and into space. It’s a day that honours curiosity, courage, and the drive to explore the unknown. Space exploration reminds us that big dreams often begin with a simple question: What’s possible? For children, those questions can spark a lifelong interest in learning, discovery, and innovation.

Behind every astronaut is a strong foundation in education. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics open doors to understanding the universe and solving complex problems here on Earth. Ensuring children have access to education is one of the most powerful ways to help them reach for their own stars, whatever path they choose.

One way families can support that journey is through the Canada Learning Bond (CLB). The Canada Learning Bond is a federal program designed to help children from low-income families save for post-secondary education. Eligible children can receive up to $2,000 from the Government of Canada, deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). Families do not need to contribute their own money to receive the bond—opening an RESP is all it takes.

Just as space missions require planning, preparation, and investment, so does a child’s future. The Canada Learning Bond helps reduce financial barriers when it’s time for post-secondary education, whether that means college, university, apprenticeships, or skilled trades training. With the right support, children can pursue careers in science, technology, healthcare, the arts—or even space exploration itself.

Many families are eligible for the Canada Learning Bond but may not realize it. Registering is straightforward, and help is available through financial institutions and community organizations to guide families through the process. Taking a small step today can help launch big possibilities tomorrow.

On National Astronaut Day, let’s celebrate curiosity, exploration, and the power of education. By registering for the Canada Learning Bond, you’re helping fuel young minds and giving children the tools they need to aim high, dream big, and explore a universe of opportunity.
