International Day of Peace: Building a Better Future Through Education and Opportunity

Every year on September 21, people around the world celebrate the International Day of Peace, a day dedicated to promoting peace, understanding, and cooperation among individuals, communities, and nations. It is a reminder that peace is built through kindness, respect, inclusion, and opportunities for everyone to reach their full potential.

Established by the United Nations in 1981, the International Day of Peace encourages people to reflect on how they can contribute to a more peaceful world. While peace may seem like a global goal, it begins with everyday actions—listening to others, treating people with compassion, resolving conflicts respectfully, and supporting those around us.

Education plays an important role in creating peaceful and thriving communities. When children and youth have access to learning opportunities, they gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to make positive choices, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to their communities.

Education provides more than academic skills. It helps young people develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the confidence to pursue their goals. Whether a child dreams of becoming a healthcare worker, teacher, skilled tradesperson, entrepreneur, or community leader, education helps turn those dreams into possibilities.

However, many families worry about the cost of future education and training. Planning ahead can feel challenging, especially when managing everyday expenses. Fortunately, programs are available to help families invest in their children’s futures.

Create Opportunities Through the Canada Learning Bond

The Canada Learning Bond (CLB) is a Government of Canada program that helps eligible children save for post-secondary education. Through a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP), eligible children can receive up to $2,000 to help pay for college, university, apprenticeships, and other eligible education or training programs.

The Canada Learning Bond is designed to make education savings more accessible for families. No personal contributions are required to receive the benefit. Many families may qualify but have not yet applied because they are unaware of the program or believe saving for education is out of reach.

Registering for the Canada Learning Bond is a simple action that can help create opportunities for a child’s future. By helping children access education and training, we strengthen families, support communities, and build a more peaceful and inclusive society.

Take a Step Toward a Peaceful Future

This International Day of Peace, consider how you can help create a brighter future. Practice kindness, support your community, and take steps that help children and youth achieve their goals.

Register for the Canada Learning Bond today and find out if your child is eligible. It costs nothing to apply, and your child could receive up to $2,000 toward future education and training.

Peace grows when people have opportunities to learn, succeed, and contribute. By investing in children today, we help build stronger, more hopeful communities for tomorrow.
