November 26th is National Cake Day. Today we can enjoy a variety of delicious cakes from all across the world. Below are a few cake facts.
It is believed that Ancient Egyptians and Greeks served cakes – they are thought to be a heavy bread served with honey and nuts.
The word “cake” can be traced back to the 1200s, and most likely originated with the Viking Old Norse language.
In the 1700s Germans celebrated children’s birthdays with “Kinderfest”.
In 1929 the first cake mix was developed during the depression. It was sold in a can instead of a box and contained flour as well as dried molasses and dried eggs.
