Canada Day is celebrated every year on July 1st and marks the anniversary of the formation of Canada as a country in 1867. On this day, the three separate colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada united into a single Dominion within the British Empire, known as Canada.
Originally called Dominion Day, the holiday was renamed Canada Day in 1982, when Canada gained full independence with the patriation of its Constitution.
Today, Canada Day is a national celebration of Canadian history, culture, and identity. Festivities across the country include fireworks, parades, concerts, barbecues, and flag-waving—often highlighted by large celebrations in Ottawa, the capital city.
It’s a day of pride, unity, and reflection on what it means to be Canadian.
What better way to celebrate Canada Day than to apply for the Canada Learning Bond. You could receive up to $2,000 in free money from the Canadian government for post-secondary education, including college, university, apprenticeship and trade school.
