Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo
May 5, 2023 by LorriK

Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

In Mexico, it is a relatively minor holiday. In North America, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American/Canadian populations.

Even if you don’t have Mexican heritage, it is a great day to celebrate with Mexican cuisine!

If you are planning to attend post-secondary school and were born after January 1, 2004 you may qualify for the Canada Learning Bond.
