Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a religious and cultural Irish holiday held on March 17th, celebrating the traditional death date of Saint Patrick the most famous patron saint of Ireland.
While it isn’t a holiday, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated across Canada. Each year the city of Montreal hosts the longest running and largest St. Patrick’s Day parade. This parade has been held every year since 1824. There is a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Toronto since 1863.
Canadians with Irish ancestry celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green, particularly shamrocks on March 17th. Other celebrations include Irish food and drinks. Even if you don’t have Irish ancestry, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day can be a lot of fun!
