Labour Day is observed on the first Monday in September.
In Canada, Labour Day can be traced back to April 15, 1872, when the Toronto Trades Assembly organized Canada’s first significant demonstration to improve worker’s rights.
The support for this was overwhelming and was the catalyst for the support and recognition of the importance of trade unions in Canada.
Originally celebrated in the spring, Labour Day was moved to the fall in 1894 and is held on the same day as Labor Day in the United States of America.
