National Crayon Day: Coloring a Brighter Future for Our Children
National Crayon Day is a celebration of creativity, imagination, and the simple tools that help children express who they are and who they want to become. Crayons are often one of the first ways children learn to tell their stories—drawing their families, their dreams, and the world as they see it. Each colour represents possibility, curiosity, and the beginning of a lifelong learning journey.
As children grow, those early creative moments lay the foundation for confidence and exploration. Supporting that journey doesn’t stop with art supplies and school projects—it also means planning for the education and opportunities that come later in life. One way families can do that is through the Canada Learning Bond (CLB).
The Canada Learning Bond is a federal program designed to help children from low-income families save for post-secondary education. Eligible children can receive up to $2,000 from the Government of Canada, deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). Families do not need to contribute their own money to receive the bond. Simply opening an RESP allows the bond to be paid into the account, creating a meaningful start toward future education costs.
Just as a blank page and a box of crayons can spark creativity, the Canada Learning Bond helps open the door to future possibilities. Whether a child dreams of becoming an artist, teacher, engineer, tradesperson, or something they haven’t imagined yet, access to education helps turn those dreams into achievable goals. The CLB helps reduce financial barriers, making post-secondary education more accessible when the time comes.
Many families are eligible for the Canada Learning Bond but don’t realize it or assume the process is complicated. In reality, registering is straightforward, and help is available through financial institutions and community organizations to guide families through opening an RESP and accessing the bond. Taking this step early allows the funds to grow over time, providing greater support when a child is ready to continue their education.
On National Crayon Day, take a moment to celebrate creativity, learning, and the potential inside every child. While crayons may eventually be put away, the dreams they help create can last a lifetime. By registering for the Canada Learning Bond, you’re helping ensure those dreams have the resources they need to grow—adding colour, opportunity, and hope to a child’s future. 🖍️
