Saint Nicholas Day, also called the Feast of Saint Nicholas, is observed on 5 or 6 December in Western Christian countries. St. Nicholas brings gifts to children (provided they are good) on the evening of December 5th and open them on December 6th.
In the Netherlands, St. Nicholas is called Sinterklaas and it is the origin of the term Santa Claus.
However, in North America, Santa Clause distributes his gifts on December 25th.
In this season of giving, if you give gifts of money or top off loved ones RESP funds, be sure to check out whether the child or children are entitled to funds from the Canada Learning Bond. Eligibility changes every year and there is between $500 to 2,000 available for post-secondary education.
