What’s so interesting about December 28th?
Well, in 2021 NASA launched the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). It was launched on December 25th and took three days to unfold once it was in orbit, becoming operational on December 28th.
The JWST is so big it was folded three times just to fit onto its launcher.
What will the JWST be used for? The space telescope was specially designed to detect light infrared particles and can detect early galaxies. It is the largest optical telescope in space. Its high resolution and sensitivity will allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope.
Scientists hope that the images sent back to earth will help uncover how many galaxies were formed.
Are you interested in science, outer space and galaxies? If you are, you can study these at university.
