World Water Day
March 22, 2026 by LorriK

Every March 22, the world comes together to recognize World Water Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of freshwater and advocating for sustainable water management. Water is essential for life—it nourishes, cleanses, and sustains communities around the globe. It reminds us that the resources we care for today have a direct impact on the generations of tomorrow.

Just as clean, accessible water is a foundation for healthy communities, education is a foundation for a child’s future. Ensuring that children have access to learning opportunities sets them up for long-term success, helping them thrive personally, professionally, and financially. One way to support this foundation is through the Canada Learning Bond (CLB).

The Canada Learning Bond is a federal program designed to help children from low-income families save for post-secondary education. Eligible children can receive up to $2,000, deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). Families do not need to contribute their own money to receive the bond—simply opening an RESP is all it takes. It’s a small step that can grow into a meaningful investment in a child’s education.

Water and education share something in common: both are essential resources that require care, planning, and attention to reach their full potential. Just as communities work together to ensure clean water for everyone, families and society can work together to ensure all children have the opportunity to pursue higher education. The Canada Learning Bond is a practical tool for making that possible, removing financial barriers and giving children the resources they need to succeed.

Many families are eligible for the CLB but may not know about it. Opening an RESP is easy, and financial institutions and community organizations are available to help guide families through the process. Taking this simple step today is like safeguarding a vital resource—it creates long-term benefits that grow over time.

On this World Water Day, let’s celebrate not only the importance of water but also the importance of planning for the future. Investing in a child’s education through the Canada Learning Bond is an act of care that can last a lifetime. By taking a few minutes to register, you’re providing a foundation as essential as water itself—nourishing growth, opportunity, and success for the next generation.
