Metric System Day celebrates the metric system. The metric system is used in most countries because it is a simplified measurement system.
The metric system was implemented when Napoleon Bonaparte introduced the standardized measurement system throughout his empire. Since then, most of the world has adapted the metric system, with the exception of the United States Liberia and Myanmar.
The metric system, as administered by the International System of Units (SI), has been updated with additional standardized measurements including:
- Kelvin for temperature
- second for time
- mole for amount of substance
- ampere for electric current
- candela for luminous intensity
- kilogram for mass
If you love math and measurements, you may be interested in attending post-secondary education. Be sure to register for the Canada Learning Bond. You may be entitled to $500-$2,000 in free money for post-secondary education.
