Sandwich Day

Sandwich Day
November 3, 2024 by LorriK

The term Sandwich is used to describe two pieces of bread with a filling. How did this name come about? The term Sandwich is attributed to John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich.

Sandwich is a city in Kent, England, and John Montagu was the fourth Earl of this little town. John was a well-known lover of card games who ordered his meat to be delivered to him between two slices of bread so that he would not get his grease-laden fingers on the cards!

When people heard of this, they started ordering their food “The Same as Sandwich”, and eventually just “a sandwich”.

National Sandwich Day celebrates both the Earl and the food!

Be sure to check into your eligibility for the Canada Learning Bond. You could get up to $2,000 in free money from the Canadian government for post-secondary education!
